Client Case Study: Developing a Business Development Strategy

At SmartVisory, we recently had the privilege of working with a client to overhaul their business development strategy, setting their company on a path for sustained growth and success. The client approached us with a clear goal: to attract more clients, establish a reliable pipeline of work, and enhance their online presence, all while staying true to their core values. Our task was to collaborate with them to craft a strategy that established realistic goals and revenue targets while outlining actionable pathways to achieve these objectives.

The Process

The journey began with an in-depth planning session to identify the client’s key strengths and challenges, which included conducting a formal SWOT analysis. We assessed what was already in place and identified gaps, starting with the mission, vision, and values of their business.


From there, we worked on:


  • Defining Goals: We set clear short- and long-term objectives, refined their vision and mission, and highlighted their Unique Selling Proposition (USP) to differentiate them in a competitive market.

  • Establishing Revenue Targets: Realistic yet ambitious revenue targets were developed, with an emphasis on aligning these goals with team capacity to avoid overextension.


Targeted Business Development

Identifying and refining target audiences was a critical component of the strategy. We pinpointed ideal client demographics, honed in on key sectors and roles, and evaluated their team structure to determine whether any immediate or future adjustments were needed. This culminated in a comprehensive business development implementation plan, detailing the specific actions and tasks required to connect with the right people and win new business.


Enhanced Online Presence

Following the strategy overhaul, we turned our focus to the client’s online presence, particularly their LinkedIn profile. By optimising profiles to align with their updated strategy and personal brand, we ensured it projected a strong, professional message.


The Outcome

This comprehensive approach not only clarified the business direction but also equipped the client with the tools to actively pursue growth opportunities. Their revamped LinkedIn profile enabled them to project a stronger, more cohesive message and connect effectively with their target audience.
